What it is

Recipe Drawer is a food app for people who actually cook. It pulls recipes from wherever they live — a screenshot of a cookbook page, a long-form blog post, a video, a friend’s text — and turns them into a clean, searchable, cookable form. Same ingredients across every recipe; same units; same step-by-step rhythm. The drawer remembers what you’ve already saved, what you’ve cooked, and what you’re likely to want this week.

What I built

The capture pipeline is the hard part. Web pages and screenshots are messy; cookbook pages have layout that bleeds across columns; voice-and-video sources need transcription before extraction. The app normalizes everything down to a typed structure — ingredients with quantities, steps as a sequence, metadata at the top — so a recipe from a 1970s cookbook and a recipe from a YouTube creator render the same way and search the same way.

Underneath: Astro for the marketing site, a Workers-deployed app for the cooking surface, D1 for the recipe store, and a content pipeline that runs on Workers + R2 for image and audio assets. Type safety end to end, including at the parse boundaries where the LLM hands back structured data.

Recipe Drawer is live. You can sign up and try it. The pricing page explains the tiers; the free tier is enough to capture a useful library before you need to upgrade.
