For most of my career I made films and the branded video that lives next to them — features, music videos, commercials, a TV pilot, a stretch where production moved fast enough to need better systems than I’d seen elsewhere. The producer’s job, stripped down, is to figure out how a thing actually works under pressure: what breaks it, who’s relying on what, where the real risks sit versus the imagined ones.

Software turned out to be a version of the same job in a quieter room. The questions are familiar — what fails first, what depends on what, what’s the smallest change that closes the largest gap — and the answers reward the same patience for detail. Over the past two years I’ve been building a portfolio of small SaaS products solo, with security as a first-class concern rather than a hardening pass at the end. Cryptography, threat modeling, incident response — most of it is, at heart, careful reading and good documentation, which is also what producing well requires.
